The long‑radius 90° Female‑Female (FF) bend in hot-dip galvanized malleable cast iron is designed to make a smooth, progressive change of direction in a pipe run. Its elongated shape sets it apart from a standard 90° elbow.
Why use a long‑radius bend?
Where a standard 90° elbow produces a sharp turn, the long‑radius bend (also called a “sweep 90”) gives a much smoother transition. Key benefits:
- Improved flow: Its shape significantly reduces turbulence and pressure loss, essential in heating systems, pump circuits, or pneumatic conveying lines.
- Easier passage: Often used in central vacuum systems or material transport to reduce blockage risks.
- Industrial aesthetics: In décor projects, its sleek, elongated form offers a different and often more appealing look than a sharp elbow.
Technical Features (EN 10242 Compliance)
Manufactured to EN 10242 for optimal quality and reliability.
- High‑Quality Material: Malleable cast iron (EN‑GJMW‑400‑5).
- Anti‑Corrosion Protection: Hot‑dip galvanized (approx. 70 µm), ensuring long life and an industrial raw look.
- Standard Female Threads (BSP): Both female threads are parallel (Rp) to ISO 7‑1. They mate with male taper threads (R) and require sealant for a perfect connection.
Indicative Dimensions
Note that the centre‑to‑end dimension is significantly larger than on a standard 90° elbow.
Thread | A – Centre‑to‑End (mm) | Approx. Weight |
---|---|---|
1/2'' (15x21 mm) | ~ 46 mm | ~ 0.15 kg |
3/4'' (20x27 mm) | ~ 57 mm | ~ 0.23 kg |
1'' (26x34 mm) | ~ 68 mm | ~ 0.38 kg |
Note: “A” is the distance from the fitting centerline to the face of one end.
Installation Tip
Given its larger footprint, ensure you have the space required. Sealing is performed on the male threads of the parts you screw into this bend.
