Right/Left Nipple M/M Black Cast Iron

The right/left M/M nipple in black cast iron (ref. 281) has a right-hand male thread on one side and a left-hand male thread on the other. The left-hand side does not screw into a standard female fitting (which is right-hand tapped). It is used with the right/left coupling F/F (ref. 271) which screws over it, or with a left-hand tapped fitting (non-standard).
How does a right/left fitting work?
A standard fitting always screws in the same direction (clockwise). The right/left nipple has a reversed thread on one of its sides. Combined with the right/left coupling F/F, it forms a system where by turning the coupling, both sides tighten or loosen simultaneously. This allows you to connect or separate two fixed elements without turning them.
Coupling + Nipple: the essential pair
The right/left nipple is never used alone. It pairs with the right/left coupling F/F:
- The R/L nipple (M/M) screws into an existing female fitting (tee, elbow, flange…).
- The R/L coupling (F/F) covers the nipple and the adjacent fitting or pipe. Turning it tightens both sides at once.
Interesting use for decoration: in a frame or rectangular shape made of pipes and fittings, the last connection is impossible with standard fittings. The combination R/L nipple + R/L coupling + standard coupling closes the loop by tightening both sides simultaneously. A more compact and economical alternative to union fittings F/F.
