Black steel half socket
The black steel ring, or standard series steel half socket, is a short tapped fitting manufactured to EN 10241 from S235JR steel tube. Shorter than a regular coupling, this threaded ring screws onto any male BSP thread: the end of a steel pipe, a nipple or a malleable iron fitting. Its raw, slightly grainy black finish also makes it a great choice for industrial-style DIY projects: pipe clothes racks, lamps, furniture or finishing rings.

Dimensions and weight
D = outer diameter of the ring, L = length (see technical drawing below). The millimetre designation (15/21, 20/27…) is the French naming for gas threads.

What is a half socket used for?
In plumbing, the steel half socket ends or extends a threaded connection over a short length: it screws onto a male gas thread of the same diameter and provides a through tapped bore. Made of weldable S235JR steel, it is also commonly welded onto a pipe or tank to create a tapped outlet.
In industrial decor, this black steel ring works as a finishing piece on threaded tube builds: a shoulder on a clothes rack, a stop ring on a furniture leg, or a trim on a plumbing-pipe lamp.
Compatibility
The ISO 7-1 gas thread is compatible with threaded steel pipes and malleable iron fittings of the same diameter. Pick the size matching your pipe: for example a 1/2″ pipe (15/21) screws into the 1/2″ ring.
