The hot-dip galvanized malleable cast‑iron male/female extension is a plumbing fitting designed to prolong an existing run. With one male end and one female end, it’s a versatile piece for many layouts.
What is this Male/Female extension used for?
This type of fitting—also called an extension—adds length to a pipework run or offsets a component. It can make up a small misalignment, bring a tap out through an overly thick wall, or simply bridge two points that are too far apart for a direct connection.
Its dual male/female connection lets it drop into an existing line without needing an additional coupling.
Technical Features (EN 10242 Compliance)
This fitting is manufactured to European standard EN 10242, a guarantee of reliability and quality for professionals and demanding DIYers. The standard ensures precise characteristics:
- High‑Quality Material: Malleable cast iron (grade EN‑GJMW‑400‑5 to EN 1562), known for high mechanical strength under pressure and impact.
- Superior Anti‑Corrosion Protection: Hot‑dip galvanized finish with a zinc layer around 70 µm. This advanced protection delivers excellent service life, even in damp environments.
- Sealing Thread (BSPT): In accordance with ISO 7‑1, the fitting combines a male taper thread (R) with a female parallel thread (Rp). This configuration seals on the threads when tightened and requires a suitable sealant (hemp and paste, PTFE tape, anaerobic resin).
Installation Tip
For this taper/parallel thread type (BSPT), sealing is critical. Apply your sealant to the male thread in the tightening direction to ensure a perfect, leak‑free connection.
