Unions plumbing fitting Female / Female galvanised cast iron

This galvanised Union fitting is ideal for creating complex closed structures (squares, rectangles) in cast iron and steel plumbing fittings. It is compatible with all galvanised cast iron or black fittings and galvanised steel or black threaded pipes of the same size sold in our online shop. The parts simply screw together, without welding, to make strong assemblies easily.

Description of the galvanised Union fitting

The Union makes it easy to connect structural parts together that would otherwise be impossible to tighten properly due to the right-hand threads on all the parts.

The Union plumbing fitting is made up of 3 parts: 2 pieces to be screwed on each side of the fittings to be connected and a nut that joins the 2 parts.

Female/female galva union characteristics and uses

The male/female union is used to connect 2 threaded steel pipes or 2 male plumbing fittings. It is ideal for large structures that you can break down into smaller elements in this way to connect them easily at the end of assembly. It also allows you to create closed structures, such as squares or rectangles.

The problem

Let's imagine a square structure made up of 4 elbows and 4 Pipes. Since all the pipes, as well as the elbow inlets, have right-hand threads, it is not possible to screw the last pipe to close the square. The only solution is to screw 2 of the parallel pipes into the elbows on one side, then screw them into the opposite elbows, which will have the effect of unscrewing them from the side already screwed in. The result will be a square with badly screwed pipes and therefore a structure with little or no rigidity. Not ideal if you're building a bookcase or table base!

The solution provided by the Union fitting

To solve this problem, divide 2 of the parallel axes into 2 using smaller pipes (4 pipes instead of 2). Your square will then be made up of 2 U's that need to be connected. The 2 female parts of the Unions will be screwed on each side. The nut is then used to connect the 2 U's and tighten the structure. This gives you a perfectly rigid closed shape (in this case a square) for your piece of furniture or object.

Although we use our fittings for decoration, this is a real piece of plumbing made from white-core malleable cast iron that complies with EN 10242 and ISO49 standards. Superior quality and a guarantee of foolproof sturdiness!

The Threads on this part are BSPT (ISO 7-1 standard) with cylindrical female (tapped) ends.
