Which floor flange should I choose for my decoration or industrial furniture project in plumbing fittings?

To carry out a decorative project in black or galvanised cast iron plumbing fittings, choosing the parts is, of course, the most important step!

Once the diameter of the fittings has been chosen and the type of finish (black or galvanised), the choice of floor flanges remains.

What are floor flanges?

Flanges are round, cast-iron, platinum-type pieces that allow your structure to be placed on the floor, fixed to a wall or ceiling, particularly if it's a luminaire with plumbing fittings. It is also known by its English name: cast iron floor flange and under the term bride de sol.

This is a tapped part, i.e. with a female "thread". It will accommodate a pipe fitting or threaded pipe (male). It is compatible with parts with BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads, known as "gas threads". Our Flanges are compatible with all the parts offered on the site.

This part will act as a support for your entire structure.
Whether it's a piece of furniture, a bookcase, shelves or a lamp, the Flange is very often essential to the completion of your project.

What size flange should I choose?

You've chosen the diameter of steel pipes for your project, but what floor flanges are compatible with these fittings?

Nothing could be simpler. Plumbing fittings and pipes are all compatible with each other as long as they are the same size (for example 3/4'' pipes (i.e. 20/27 mm) with 3/4'' flanges (i.e. 20/27 mm).
As long as there is a male side (threaded) and a female side (tapped), fitting is possible!

You will find below the table of fitting sizes according to their different designations:

Even if your project is made in another size, you can use reducers and reduced nipples to use the flanges best suited to your structure.
For example, for a 3/8'' project (i.e. 12x17 mm), you can add a 1/2'' to 3/8'' reducer to use a 1/2'' flange.

Cast iron floor flange types:

Small diameter floor flanges with fixing holes:

Small diameter black cast iron flanges are available from 1/2'' to 1'' 1/4.

These plates are particularly ideal for wall mounting a relatively light structure. They have 3 fixing holes, which limits the number of screws in your partition, and are relatively lightweight. Lettering is visible around the circumference, which will enhance the industrial style of your project, while retaining an authentic look of real plumbing parts.

These flanges are suitable for all types of project, from plumbing lamps to industrial furniture and small decorative objects such as coat hooks, pipe shelf supports or toilet paper holders.

Large diameter floor flanges with fixing holes:

Small diameter black cast iron Flanges are available from 1/2'' to 1'' 1/4.

These flanges have a larger diameter and are thicker.

They are particularly suited to heavier structures and the absence of lettering gives them a more restrained appearance than their smaller sisters. This makes them ideal for furnishing projects such as bookcases, pipe table bases and other imposing creations.
