A square dining table on a single central base
Built from 3/4 inch black steel pipe (27 mm outside diameter) and malleable cast iron fittings, this cross base carries a square tabletop at dining height. One central base, four legs gathered in the middle, nothing standing in the corners: nobody bumps into a table leg, and you can add a chair without moving the furniture.
Four legs, one cross, no welding
The central cast iron cross sends four rails out to the four legs. Each leg is made of a tee, a long pipe rising to the tabletop fixing flange and a short pipe closed by a coupling with a plastic insert. The whole thing is screwed by hand in Annecy and comes apart completely.
Only two footprints, and why
The size given is the footprint on the floor. In 3/4 inch, the base stays light: it needs a wide footprint so the table does not tip when someone leans on an edge. In this diameter we therefore offer only the 95 × 95 and the 115 × 115 cm, both checked with a 20 kg load applied at the corner of the top. For a more compact table, move up to 34 or 42 mm pipe, heavier and therefore steadier.
The height is fixed: 74 cm for the base alone. Add the thickness of your tabletop to get the final height — 74 + 2 cm = 76 cm, 74 + 3 cm = 77 cm. A dining table usually sits between 74 and 78 cm: a 2 to 3 cm top puts you right in that range. The underside of the top stays clear at 74 cm from the floor, which is 27 to 30 cm above a standard chair seat.
Key features
Available in 2 versions, to be chosen above: footprint from 95 × 95 cm to 115 × 115 cm, base height 74 cm.
| Pipes | black steel 3/4" (20 × 27), giving an outside diameter of 27 mm — see the table of steel pipe diameters |
|---|---|
| Materials | malleable cast iron fittings, black steel pipes (black or galvanized steel?) |
| Finish | clear varnish applied to the cast iron and the steel alike, leaving the raw metal visible |
| Colour | Grey / anthracite grey depending on the light |
| Tabletop | not included — the Ø 70 mm flanges are drilled with 3 holes to screw on the tabletop of your choice, wood or glass (choosing a floor flange) |
| Flange spacing (centre-to-centre) | approximately the width minus 7 cm between opposite flanges, to position the tabletop |
| Floor protection | black plastic inserts under each leg |
| Assembly | delivered part-assembled — a few fittings to screw together on arrival (how to screw threaded fittings together), then fix your tabletop to the flanges |
| Weight | 9.2 to 9.9 kg depending on the version (table below) |
The same base, other pipe diameters
This cross-leg base comes in three pipe diameters: Ø 27 mm (this page), Ø 34 mm and Ø 42 mm. The thicker the pipe, the heavier, steadier and bolder the base; the thinner it is, the more discreet the silhouette. The same frame is also offered at coffee-table height (32, 42 or 52 cm).
Details and features
A clear varnish protects the cast iron and the steel while leaving the raw look of the metal visible. Wipe it with a dry cloth; avoid water and abrasive cleaners. Indoor use only.
Pictures featuring a tabletop are staged; only the base is sold.
Slight variations in shade or surface are normal on cast parts: they belong to the raw, authentic character of Home Invasion products, and make every base one of a kind.
Built to order in our workshop in Annecy, France.
Detailed dimensions
The letters refer to the drawings below. All dimensions in centimetres; dimension A is measured from the outer edge of one flange to the opposite flange. Centre distances (B, C) are measured between flange centres — useful for drilling the top.
Tolerance: these are nominal dimensions. How far each fitting is tightened, together with casting tolerances, gives about ± 5 mm of variation on each dimension. Measure the base once assembled before drilling your tabletop or having it cut.

For cutting the tabletop and fixing it to the flanges, our tutorial building an industrial-style desk from plumbing pipe takes you through it step by step.
Would you rather build it yourself?
There is nothing sealed about this base: it is a fully screwed assembly, with no welding and no glue. Every part it is made of is in our catalogue and can be ordered separately — enough to build it with an adjustable spanner, change the lengths, or reuse only part of it.
The parts of one base:
Pipe lengths, cart and 3D view by size:
| Size | Pipes to order | Cart | 3D view |
|---|---|---|---|
| 95 × 95 cm | 4 × 180 mm, 4 × 400 mm, 4 × 500 mm | Add the 25 parts | Open the configurator |
| 115 × 115 cm | 4 × 180 mm, 8 × 500 mm | Add the 25 parts | Open the configurator |
The assembled base, for its part, arrives varnished, checked and fitted with its floor-protection inserts, which are not sold separately.
Adding casters
Casters with a 3/4″ fitting stem screw straight into the bottom sockets, with no drilling and no mounting plate: it is the same thread as the legs, nothing else is needed. You need four, one per leg.
They raise the base: take the caster's overall height minus the roughly 1.5 cm screwed into the socket, which comes to 9 cm more with a 75 mm wheel and 11.5 cm with a 100 mm wheel.
On a dining-table base they carry the top to around 83 cm — worktop height, not dining height. That is exactly what makes it a kitchen island or a tall trolley you roll from one wall to the other.
| Model | Brake | Overall height |
|---|---|---|
| 75 mm wheel, rubber | no brake | 105 mm |
| 75 mm wheel, cast iron | no brake | 105 mm |
| 75 mm wheel, rubber | with brake | 105 mm |
| 75 mm wheel, cast iron | with brake | 105 mm |
| 100 mm wheel, rubber | no brake | 130 mm |
| 100 mm wheel, cast iron | no brake | 130 mm |
| 100 mm wheel, rubber | with brake | 130 mm |
| 100 mm wheel, cast iron | with brake | 130 mm |
Braked models usually go on two of the four legs, diagonally opposite.
