Square dining table, central cross base Ø 34 mm
The 1 inch pipe (34 mm outside diameter) gives this dining table base the weight it needs to hold a square top with nothing standing in the corners. Three footprints: 76 × 76 cm for a tight four-seater, 96 × 96 cm for four to six diners, 116 × 116 cm for eight. Malleable cast iron fittings, varnished black steel pipes.
Plumbing, not joinery
A cast iron cross at the centre, four rails, four legs: each leg pairs a tee, a 50 cm pipe rising to the tabletop flange and a short pipe closed by a coupling. Nothing is welded — it is all screwed by hand in Annecy — and black plastic inserts protect the floor.
Choosing your footprint
The size is the footprint on the floor. On a central base, stability depends on the overhang: the further the top projects, the more sensitive the table is to someone leaning on the edge. The table below gives, for each footprint, the square tabletop size not to exceed — a figure obtained with a 20 kg load applied at the corner.
The height is fixed: 75 cm for the base alone. Add the thickness of your tabletop to get the final height — 75 + 2 cm = 77 cm, 75 + 3 cm = 78 cm. A dining table usually sits between 74 and 78 cm: a 2 to 3 cm top puts you right in that range. The underside of the top stays clear at 75 cm from the floor, which is 27 to 30 cm above a standard chair seat.
Key features
Available in 3 versions, to be chosen above: footprint from 76 × 76 cm to 116 × 116 cm, base height 75 cm.
| Pipes | black steel 1" (26 × 34), giving an outside diameter of 34 mm — see the table of steel pipe diameters |
|---|---|
| Materials | malleable cast iron fittings, black steel pipes (black or galvanised steel?) |
| Finish | clear varnish applied to the cast iron and the steel alike, leaving the raw metal visible |
| Colour | Grey / anthracite grey depending on the light |
| Tabletop | not included — the Ø 75 mm flanges are drilled with 3 holes to screw on the tabletop of your choice, wood or glass (choosing a floor flange) |
| Flange spacing (centre-to-centre) | approximately the width minus 7.5 cm between opposite flanges, to position the tabletop |
| Floor protection | black plastic inserts under each leg |
| Assembly | delivered part-assembled — a few fittings to screw together on arrival (how to screw threaded fittings together), then fix your tabletop to the flanges |
| Weight | 12.9 to 14.8 kg depending on the version (table below) |
The same base, other pipe diameters
This cross-leg base comes in three pipe diameters: Ø 27 mm, Ø 34 mm (this page) and Ø 42 mm. The thicker the pipe, the heavier, steadier and bolder the base; the thinner it is, the more discreet the silhouette. The same frame is also offered at coffee-table height (32, 42 or 52 cm).
Details and features
The finish is a clear varnish: it protects the metal without colouring it. A soft, dry cloth is all it takes — no water, no detergent, no abrasives. For indoor use only.
In the lifestyle shots the tabletop is there for illustration: it is not supplied with the base.
Cast iron and drawn steel are never exactly identical from one piece to the next. These small differences from the photographs are the signature of the industrial, authentic character of every Home Invasion base.
Every base is assembled to order in Annecy, France.
Detailed dimensions
The letters refer to the drawings below. All dimensions in centimetres; dimension A is measured from the outer edge of one flange to the opposite flange. Centre distances (B, C) are measured between flange centres — useful for drilling the top.
Tolerance: these are nominal dimensions. How far each fitting is tightened, together with casting tolerances, gives about ± 5 mm of variation on each dimension. Measure the base once assembled before drilling your tabletop or having it cut.

For cutting the tabletop and fixing it to the flanges, our tutorial building an industrial-style desk from plumbing pipe takes you through it step by step.
Would you rather build it yourself?
There is nothing sealed about this base: it is a fully screwed assembly, with no welding and no glue. Every part it is made of is in our catalogue and can be ordered separately — enough to build it with an adjustable spanner, change the lengths, or reuse only part of it.
