The cross base in one-inch pipe, for tabletops with some weight

This is the mid-range version of our cross base: malleable cast iron plumbing fittings and 1 inch black steel pipe, 34 mm outside diameter. Seven millimetres more than the 3/4 inch version, and the whole silhouette changes: the legs gain substance, and the base takes a solid oak slab or a thick glass top in its stride. Screw on the tabletop of your choice and you have a coffee table, an end table or a side table of industrial character that exists nowhere else.

Plumbing fittings, screwed together one by one

Everything is assembled by hand in Annecy: four legs — coupling, pipe, tee, pipe, flange — meet a central cross through four horizontal rails. It is all threaded and screwed, nothing is welded or glued, and the frame comes apart as easily as it goes together. The couplings at the bottom take black plastic inserts that protect your floor.

Which size, which height?

Size refers to the square footprint: allow 8 to 15 cm of tabletop overhang on each side. A 56 × 56 cm base therefore comfortably carries a 70 to 85 cm top. The less the top overhangs, the steadier the table.

Height follows your seating: 32 cm for a low living room, 42 cm for most sofas — the most versatile —, 52 cm for a deep sofa or an end table. The figure given is for the base alone: add the thickness of your tabletop to get the final height (42 cm + a 3 cm top = 45 cm).

The same base, other pipe diameters

This cross-leg base comes in three pipe diameters: Ø 27 mm, Ø 34 mm (this page) and Ø 42 mm. The thicker the pipe, the heavier, steadier and bolder the base; the thinner it is, the more discreet the silhouette. The same frame is also offered at dining-table height (75 cm).

Details and features

The metal is protected by a clear varnish that preserves its raw look: care for it with a soft, dry cloth, without water or abrasive cleaners. For indoor use only.

Detailed dimensions

The letters refer to the drawings below. All dimensions in centimetres; dimension A is measured from the outer edge of one flange to the opposite flange. Centre distances (B, C) are measured between flange centres — useful for drilling the top.

Tolerance: these are nominal dimensions. How far each fitting is tightened, together with casting tolerances, gives about ± 5 mm of variation on each dimension. Measure the base once assembled before drilling your tabletop or having it cut.

There is nothing sealed about this base: it is a fully screwed assembly, with no welding and no glue. Every part it is made of is in our catalogue and can be ordered separately — enough to build it with an adjustable spanner, change the lengths, or reuse only part of it.
